30 Years Later, Ads Look Vaguely Familiar
Here are a couple ads from a 1978 National Geographic magazine. The themes certainly look familiar.

Building on Vespa’s recent product placement momentum, it looks like the scooter will play a large role in this summer’s Kevin Spacey film Shrink.
It’s good to see that this looks like a classic Vespa model, highlighting the brand’s iconoclasm and not one of the newer, indistinguishable (and forgettable) models seen in many recent films.
I’ve noted current and upcoming Apple product placement and The Proposal’s buffet of iMacs.
Added to these is the iPhone in the straight to DVD film Beer Pong, the latest in the Road Trip franchise (the new American Pie?).

Road Trip II: Beer Pong is interesting from a product placement perspective for another reason though. The Agnes Scott College campus in Decatur, Georgia on which Beer Pong was shot has been the site of nearly 30 films, including Fried Green Tomatoes, October Road, Driving Miss Daisy and Scream 2.
Recent films using the college, such as Beer Pong and Van Wilder 3, have run into protest from the student body on grounds of the less-than-ideal nature of the films depicting their school.
But while this is certainly a concern for Alumni and current Agnes Scott students, will it really have any impact on recruiting or potential students? Agnes Scott will not be featured in the credits. So, ironically, the only way anyone would probably know the college in the film was Agnes Scott would be to Google it and find all the online materials by the film;s opponents stating how such a film will hurt the school.

So, yeah, the long-running Rex Morgan comic strip has a swarthy, dark-haired character named “Guido.”

This time, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

A double dose! What products bookend Pee Wee’s adventure’? Click the thumbnail if you cannot remember.
In my review of current and upcoming Apple product placement I noted The Proposal’s iPod scene. Well, it looks like the iPod is Apple’s product placement desert for the film, coming after a scene buffet of iMacs:
