North Dakotans hate property taxes. I mean, really hate them with the intensity of 1,000 suns. Of course, they like that their children have schools to be not be left behind at… But those property taxes?! PURE EVIL!
So it’s good to see some life in an effort to abolish all property taxes in the state:
“Secretary of State Al Jaeger has approved the ballot initiative for circulation. It would change the North Dakota Constitution to eliminate property taxes, starting in January 2012. The measure needs almost 26,000 petition signatures by Aug. 4 to get a spot on the November general election ballot.”
So 26,000? That’s only half the state.
See, this is the kind of story that makes me miss the masters at the New York Post. Minnesota’s Pioneer Press goes with the boring headline “St. Paul man charged with beating up quadruple amputee will turn himself in.” But one has to wonder what the Post would have done. Just look at this material:
“[He] said the argument escalated after “I turned on the TV and she got mad.”
“She punched me in the groin” Smith said. He said Bell also hit him with a coffee canister and a bedpan.
“It was full of pee,” he said.
In response, “I hit her once and that was it,” Smith said. “Maybe twice.”
Although Bell had both hands and part of both legs amputated because of a childhood illness, Smith said she can still be violent when she loses her temper.
“She’ll swing, push me down and choke me with her nubs,” Smith said. He said she also hit him with her wheelchair.
Bell on Monday agreed there was hitting on both sides. She said she plans to marry Smith and doesn’t want him to serve jail time.
“We both need anger management,” she said.
Game over, every other domestic violence story of 2010.

Hustler Parodies is an arm (baby’s?!) of Hustler. The group makes films like This Ain’t Star Trek, Who’s Nailin’ Paylin, and This Ain’t Happy Days. Here is one of its latest: Everyone Loves Lucy.
At whom exactly is this parody targeted? I Love Lucy went off the air in 1960. Even a teenager at that time is now well into his 60s and probably no longer harboring exotic thoughts about Lucille Ball, who hasn’t been alive for 21 years. Has any red-blooded man in his mastabatory prime ever heard of this show let alone watched it?

Yay! Jeff Wood lives to fight drive completely hammered another day! After five (5!) DUIs (three of which came while in office). The committee tied 3-3 on every vote it held: one to reprimand Wood, two to expel him and one not to expel him, which means it made no official recommendation to the Assembly.
“Rep. Mark Gundrum, R-New Berlin, pointed out Wood typically drives between 400 and 500 miles per month on Assembly business, and one April he drove more than 900.”
However, it was pointed out “Wood still holds a valid driver’s license in Wisconsin and expelling him would not affect his ability to drive.”
